Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Forsyth Working Families Partnership offers free income tax preparation for families making up to $51,000 a year
at a variety of sites from February 1 to mid-April. IRS-certified volunteers file federal and state returns electronically
at no charge to the taxpayer. Taxpayers earning up to $57,000 can also prepare their own tax forms online and file free. Find out more.
Volunteers help low to moderate income individuals and families
as greeters or tax preparers. Free training is provided and schedules are flexible. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring
that taxpayers who are eligible receive the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal benefit particularly for families with children.

What is the Earned Income
The EITC is often called the largest
anti-poverty program in the nation, because a working low-to-moderate income family that qualifies for EITC can receive a
tax refund of up to $5,751 in a given year—a significant amount of additional income if you live at or below poverty
level. However, millions of dollars of this tax credit typically go
unclaimed every year; estimates range from $8 to 12 million unclaimed locally each year. Find out more.
