Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
For Taxpayers
Forsyth Working Families Partnership offers free income tax preparation for families making up to $50,000 a year (or individuals up to $24,000) at a variety of sites from mid-January to mid-April. IRS-certified volunteers file federal and state returns electronically at no charge to the taxpayer. Find out more.

For Volunteers
Volunteers help low to moderate income individuals and families as greeters or tax preparers. Free training is provided and schedules are flexible. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring that taxpayers who are eligible receive the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal benefit particularly for families with children. Find out more.

What is the Earned Income Tax Credit?
The EITC is often called the largest anti-poverty program in the nation, because a working low-to-moderate income family that qualifies for EITC can receive a tax refund of up to $5,751 in a given year—a significant amount of additional income if you live at or below poverty level. However, millions of dollars of this tax credit typically go unclaimed every year; estimates range from $8 to 12 million unclaimed locally each year. Find out more.
